Declan Ryan is stepping up efforts to get us all using flying cars and air taxis in the not-too-distant future. While this sounds utterly bonkers and like something out of the cartoon show Futurama, Ryan is a serious hombre in the aviation sector.
He’s the co-founder of Ryanair and has been one of the most influential players in the global growth of low-cost airlines, having been involved with Tiger in Asia, Allegiant Air in the US, and Viva Air in Mexico and Latin America.
Ryan’s investment group, Irelandia, bought a stake in Skyports, which is developing the infrastructure to enable flying taxis to land and take off from specialist stations called vertiports. It initially invested as part of a €6 million funding round in 2020
